America's Oldest Ice Racing Series
ICE RACING ?
Welcome to the new online home for ice racing at the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club. The ice races at the club are nothing new. In fact, it may be the longest running ice series in the country! What's also new, besides this site, for 2011 is... well, everything. The series was taken over by club member Brent Sellew to keep it running. Brent joined forces with Matt Francis to breathe new life into the time honored races. Both have roots in racing and really want to make the weekly Sunday events fun, and safe, for the whole family. There are classes available for everyone, whether you're a full-blown pro on a bike or ATV, or a little one on a 50cc machine. It's also a great venue to be a spectator with a comfortable, warm lodge where you can duck in for a few minutes in front of the fire place, grab a cheeseburger, a bowl of chili, or an adult beverage! The Rod & Gun club members take great pride in their facility and work hard with Matt and Brent to make sure you have a great time. Turn off the TV, put the video games down, and come get some fresh air this Sunday. We hope to see you at the races!
UPDATES
Is it ever going to be winter???
Hey everyone. It looks like we're racing this Sunday! See you at the club.
Hundreds and hundreds of photos from today's race are already on Matt Francis Photos so check 'em out!
Racing is on for tomorrow! See everyone at the track!
Tomorrow's race is cancelled!!! Nobody saw this much rain coming this early. Reports from the track say there is a ton of water on the track and the temps are only going a few degrees below freezing tonight. It kills me to do it considering the amount of work we put into the track yesterday. I'd rather cancel than have a race that isn't a safe, quality event. Please spread the word.
The new minor waiver can be downloaded from the link on this site. It must be printed in color!
Important Update! We gave copies of the new minor waiver to everyone who signed up a child to race last weekend. These waivers MUST be signed by BOTH parents and notarized! Your minor child will not be allowed to race no matter how loud you yell at us. This is going to be standard practice at every track for 2011. The minor liability laws have changed since 2010. If you don't have a copy please email me and I will get you one asap.
Yesterday was a blast! Thanks to everyone that came down to the races. We have a few items to cover today:
1. Due to popular demand, the club's kitchen will now be offering egg sandwiches with a choice of meat. Skip that nasty D&D sandwich on the way to the track and support the club that makes this whole thing possible.
2. A few of our crusty old senior citizens have asked us to bring back the "Super Dino" class. It will be a 45+ Open class starting next Sunday. Our track E.M.T.s will be ready with oxygen...
3. Cooch 5 Racing will be offering an additional purse for the 450 A bikes! $125 for 1st, $75 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd. If you aren't familiar with Cooch 5 Racing, do yourself a favor and don't Google it while the kids are in the room. Learn from my mistakes.
4. Scoring change: Starting next Sunday we will change the scoring format. Only your second moto will determine your overall position for the day. No more 2 moto combined motocross style scoring. Prior race results will not be changed.
5. Photos from yesterday will be up later tonight at: Matt Francis Photos Not everyone is in there. I still need to figure out how to be in two places at once.
The races are on for tomorrow! We will post on this site if the races are ever cancelled. Please don't call the Rod & Gun Club for race info. On another note, I've been told that there are a few riders that want to ride a 65cc bike in the Pitbike class... not going to happen! Pitbikes are 4 stroke, air cooled, horizontal engines. 2 stroke bikes are not allowed so please don't drive for hours with your KX65 and expect to run in the Pitbike class.
Be sure to visit Bill, Kyle, and Mike from Motowear USA in the club house. They can make you some incredible graphics for your machine, and should have some of the t-shirts that everyone was asking for last weekend. Check out: Motowear USA
Just so everyone knows... All bikes and ATVs require AMA legal ice screws and tethered kill switches. Bikes need fenders that extend down to the axle line. ATVs need to have nerf bars. See you Sunday!
Week 2 of racing is "in the books". Results and current point standings are available in a link on the right side of this page. You can also download your entry forms and waiver!
